To me, I think it's a good idea just so that you don't have to pay the insurance for a supersport. If I upgrade my 300 to my taste, i get the tailored bike and I still only pay $300/yr insurance. If I buy a zx6r, i'm paying over $1k. I could also see making a point for getting the 300 track ready for less (total). There's several reasons, I was curious what yours was.

By the way, I pay $1000 a year for my 300 because I have 100 deductibles for both comp and collision then have $14000 in accessories coverage. Doesn't bother me to be fully covered.
