how else are you supposed to install a clip? you put the link wall on the pins, push it as far as it goes with the grips, then install the clip and snap it on using the grips again. i have had a few clips last longer. but when i safetywire it, it does not come off. one way you are trusting the spring of the metal clip to hold tight. the other way you are trusting a piece of metal not to snap in half. i would rather push the limit to it snapping rather than the limit being it gets a little bit loose and falls off.
Oh I have seen people put the closed end on and try to pry the open end over the pin and try to take them off with a screwdriver under the middle of the prong trying to "unhook" the open end from the groove.
