I've car pooled, and it's not as efficient or helpful as it would seem at first. Unless everyone in the pool lives in the same place, there's driving to pick up and drop off the poolers. There's also a lot of "I need to stop on the way home" and "can we leave 15 minutes later just this once" stuff to deal with. Fuel and driving expenses being saved isn't quite the same as standard of living being raised. I'd go for the small displacement or electric motorcycle long before I'd commit to long term car pooling.
