Nah, sitting around won't do anything to metal.
I take it you've already changed coolant and oil? Filled to upper line on site glass?
Get yourself workshop manual and perform following service:
-:valve-clearance adjustment, use 1/4" torque-wrench to tighen lock-nut
- cam-timing, make sure both cams are timed correctly (all marks line up properly)
- install new CCT while you're there.
After above procedures been performed according to manual, engine will be smooth and quiet.
