Of course, as indicated by my username, I'd stay purebred Kawi and wedge a KX500 motor in there. 55-60 hp, snap your neck torque across the tachometer, a lighter engine and you'd really only need a little dry cell (jumpstarter) battery if one at all, since it's kick-start. You can get a good running KX for well under 2k.
Or maybe a 600? Problem is you'll be getting way back into the 90's before you come up with a decent one for 2 grand.
