Oh, the Skyline Drive was wonderful!

What SUCKED was US 250, from the WV state line all the way down to Staunton.

Lots of chip seal laid down in steep, shaded areas... which means that the gravel never gets mashed down into the tar and winds up all over the road.

US250 in WV... carving bliss, 50+ mph in the twisties.

US250 in VA... Same terrain, 20-25 mph and a pucker factor of 8+.

In 2600 miles, this stretch of the road was the only time I felt at all nervous.

I won't brand the whole state because of poor conditions on my route, but I have to observe that the same road in WV was in much better shape than it was in VA.
