pre-gen > new-gen > 300 (If we're talking about buying a new 300 right now)
Looks:
300 > new-gen > pre-gen
Ease of maintenance:
pre-gen > new-gen > 300 (this one is tough. The pre-gen has the easiest valve adjustments, but it requires more of them. The 300 is probably the hardest to work on due to the additional electronics and FI, but would potentially require much less work to be done, considering how often clogged carbs are a problem on the older bikes)

The 300 is a clean breeze on the oil change which means a lot since those will be done more often than anything else besides gas.
