Interesting. I purchased both a dark smoke and the Transitions lens with the helmet. When the package arrived I immediately took both shields outside into bright sunlight to see what would happen. My immediate impression was that the Transitions shield got as dark, or even darker, than the dark smoke.

However, I do know that the effect is temperature-dependent. This was a bright, sunny spring day, temps in the upper 50s or so IIRC.

I'll have to try it again and shoot video with a standardized object behind each shield (e.g. a note card) for objective comparison.
