Yeah, due to post-war restrictions, Porsche had to farm out production to companies who were already making similar products, Allgaier of Germany and Hofherr Schrantz of Austria. There’s more collaboration in Europe anyway, similar to Japanese kereitsu system. Many of Porsche’s more modern cars were made in partnership with Volkswagen or Audi.
There’s lots of interesting cross-links between auto-makers. Toyota saved Porsche from bankruptcy in ‘90s by teaching JIT lean-manufacturing techniques (GM failed to learn that from joint-venture with Toyota in NUMMI). Now Toyota’s latest Supra is made in BMW’s Austrian plant.... Heck, Mexico was producing VW Beetles up until couple years ago.
