If you're a bit short on cash and don't mind pre-owned stuff, take a look on Craigslist. Several pairs for sale in my area.
Keep in mind that hearing aids are often programmed to amplify some frequencies more than others (tailored for the original owner's hearing deficits) and come in three or four physical sizes. But chances are, if you try a few pairs, you'll find a set that does the job adequately. Used hearing aids clean up nicely with isopropyl alcohol.
I played around with my dad's hearing aids after he died (and after I cleaned them up a bit). I was amazed at what I don't normally hear (the rain was spectacular!).
Craigslist is also a cheap source for CPAP machines (for you budget-minded snorers) and walkers, portable commodes, wheelchairs, and other devices for the elderly.
