Say the Ninja 250 wasn't on the market, what bike would be your second choice?

It's something I've been thinking about, since from looking on Craigslists around my area, I can't seem to find any 250's in my price range; I think I might have to broaden my "acceptable bikes" category, and I just don't know what else I'd want.
