8 bottles of water is not nearly enough to be considered over consumption. Unless it was 8 of those liter bottles and he drank them all within 5 minutes. If anything, most people don't drink enough water throughout the day. That's not to argue against the fact that over-hydration does happen, because obviously that's possible.
