I wave when I split on a bicycle at intersections. Or when someone makes a polite pass, I'll wave then.
If I'm on the highway in my cage or ninja, I'll flash my brights to a semi who's looking to change lanes to let them know that they've cleared me. They always respond with flashing their running lights after their lane change is done. That's the same idea.
