The dude you bought it off was probably happy to get rid of it. He may not have had the time and/or skill to diagnose the issue(s) and restore it.
Hopefully you'll bring the ninjette back to its former glory!
That bike in the background looks like a monster. I guess you want the ninjette because it's cheaper, lighter and more playful.
