Great project! You can learn a lot by designing and building yourself.
I am afraid though,speaking of driving off of just one rear wheel,you may have a substantial pull to the freewheel side during acceleration and cruse. Under deceleration it will tend to pull towards the drive wheel. This may make for some pretty unsettling handling caractaristics.
