Marc Marquez led the pack at the first free practice Friday at the Le Mans circuit in France. Marquez's time of 1'34.328 was a mere one-tenth better than second-fastest Dani Pedrosa and two-tenths faster than Valentino Rossi (3rd). Jorge Lorenzo (4th) and Alvaro Bautista (5th) rounded out the top five in the morning session under a clear sky at the circuit which is entering its 14th consecutive year of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
Marquez's first practice time not only is tantalizingly close to his pursuers, it is only three-tenths faster than last year's FP1 time set by Jorge Lorenzo. Even so, Marquez was fast most of the 45-minute session and Pedrosa, Rossi and Lorenzo all set their fast times at the session's end.
