Thanks for the link. I went through the bike this morning and found that the only position where I can tuck the stand away without it looking awful will clear the bottom of the chain horizontally but is too close laterally.

The chain tends to move up and down with tension and slack but it can easily move laterally (a tiny bit) under a jerky acceleration/deceleration. In order to clear the chain laterally the stand needs to be pretty low resulting in a bizarre appearance.

I'm a little bummed but intend to remove it and install it temporarily when working on the bike (as suggested in the link). I've used rear/front stands in the past and they're just not as convenient as a centerstand, they ain't free and they add to my garage clutter.

In the photo you can see what little tolerance there would be if I kept the stand at a level that wouldn't make it an eyesore.
