Kenda K671s in 2021

Looking to put new rubber on an inherited 2005 EX250 with ancient tires. I was going to go with Pirelli as that's my go-to brand but I'm having a little trouble justifying $300+ on Sport Demons for a bike that I still need to source front springs, a rear shock, probably chain/sprox, maybe emulators, clip-ons... the typical list.
What I'm wondering is if the old Kenda K671 is a relatively competent tire still (the wiki seems to say it's fine but that's an old article). This bike will be a canyon-carver/kart track bike so I will be riding it aggressively, but I wonder if these tires will work as I get suspension and brakes upgraded? I can always upgrade to Pirellis (or something else I'm not aware of??) next season.
Thoughts? Other tire suggestions? fyi, these Kendas are $130 for a pair, compared with $300 for the Pirellis.

Mod: my bad, I put this in 08-12. I meant to put this in the old first-gen section.
