The bar ends themselves aren't screwed in. A bolt goes through them and there's an expander inside the bar, providing a solid friction fit. You loosen the screw and the plug comes out easily. The trick is getting the screws loose.

These screws are secured with red Loctite. You need, at minimum, an impact driver with the proper (large) Philips bit to get 'em out, and maybe some heat too... or you'll mess up the screw head and have to drill 'em out.
