I agree - but I think those are related concepts. The extent of asymptomatic transmission is likely one of the reasons that community spread is harder to manage and understand compared to other types of contagious diseases. Looking back to verify and track actual cases, compared to what public health was seeing and doing at that time for monitoring/containment, should be a learning we take on board for now and the future.

If we don't figure out where mistakes were made back then (and continue to be made now), it's not going to magically fix itself during our response.
