Don`t sell the Lotus Challenger short. They made a fine bike and belong in the era of Univega, Panasonic, Bridgestone, Nashiki, Miyata, Shogun, etc. These bikes were made in Japan using Tange Chrome Molly steel. They for the most part had lugged frames and were made to a standard only enjoyed by custom bike makers today. Your 1X1/4x27" wheels are probably Araya Wheels. I would try Harris Cycle.com. They are the experts on vintage bikes and could probably set you up with some Mavic hoops. On my Univega Viva Sport, It came with the top end Arayas and I laced in Simano 105 hubs with Wheelsmith Stainless spokes. The Viva Sport could pass as a new bike.
