I've used both. They are very very different. Maxima is way too sticky and attracts dirt in my opinion. The chain saver stuff is a dry wax and stays cleaner.

The multi-purpose version used to be a dry wax, like posted in the picture, that was great for chains but they changed the formula so it isn't amazing anymore. Not a dry wax anymore. The chain saver is very close to what the multi-purpose was originally.
