Not sure it's HD plugs that does the ion-sensing part. It's ECU that has calibrated tables for spark-resistance across gap at specific time-intervals after coil is dumped. When detonation occurs, it lowers resistance across gap faster than normal, and coil-current increases faster than normal. This is detected by ECU and it can then adjust fuel & ignition for next engine revolution.
Yeah, using those crappy Champion plugs on HD would probably render ion-sensing anti-detonation feature inoperable.
