Yeah, a big part of getting to your dream-job is to work up from inside the company. Very, very few companies hire fresh graduates for great positions. The requirements for those jobs depends upon the results and deliverables of your prior achievements. So you'll want to just get your foot in the door in an entry-level position, prove yourself and work your way up. A lot of that has to do with schmoozing the staff and building allies. The higher you go, the more and more people you need to know and more and more of it depends upon how much they like you. It can take 5, 10, 20-years to do.

About 15-yrs ago, around the 1st dot.com boom, one of my friends got promoted up to a VP-level position at 3COM. Afterwards, he sent out over 200 thank-you letters. It took that many people on his side vouching for him to get that job.
