The last Hiflow HF401 I bought had the correct O-rings and worked fine. How close is your to fitting? I've had an O-ring in a different application be big enough that it was difficult to cram it in the groove and have it stay, but a few minutes in the freezer shrunk it enough that it went right in. You have to be quick though.

Mine was the Hiflow as well, it was a year old and box was open. Maybe I tossed the k+n one in there. Im buying another hiflow to check.
had to really squeeze the bastard in there, moving it slowly to tighten with it oiled up already.
