My 91 does the same thing, it will start and run great, but idling is another story. Takes 90% of the choke to get it started, but have to leave the choke on to keep it idling around 3-4k. After warming up its still don't idle on its own without some choke/throttle assist.
Hoping you get your's fixed and post solution so I can apply same fix to mine.
