I went the opposite direction, meaning in instead of out. In the olden days they callled them suicide mirrors which sounds like something i'd end up with, but they work. They attach like bar ends but curve up and over or as i ride down and under. I can see right under my arm and it's clear/stable unlike stalk or extended mirrors. Head checks have always been taught as mandatory, never go without.
