[visordown.com] - An electric scooter you wont need to recharge

The Gogoro Smartscooter

One of the planned battery-swapping stations

A NEW electric scooter firm aims to solve one of the biggest problems of battery power by doing away with the need to recharge.

Instead, Taiwanese startup Gogoro plans to create networks of battery swapping stations in major cities across the globe.

The new Smartscooter has an interchangeable battery which the firm says will be possible to swap in six seconds at one of the stations in the planned ‘Gogoro Energy Network’.

Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Smartcooter has a claimed top speed of 60mph and a 60-mile range at 25mph. It makes 8.6hp and 18.4lbft.

Gogoro, founded by Horace Luke and Matt Taylor, former executives of smartphone maker HTC, has already secured $150million of funding.

Luke said: ‘The Smartscooter and Gogoro Energy Network will capture the hearts of the next generation and become a catalyst for more efficient, cleaner, and smarter energy choices in our cities.’
