Sure, if you get strong tight wrap on both sides (1cm per side), electrical tape may work. Heat-shrink wrap would be better. Maybe expect 2-4 yrs with electrical tape. About 10-15 yrs with adhesive-lined heat-shrink wrap. And 30-50 yrs minimum with full NASA-spec, although we don't have pre-tinned wiring for corrosion resistance.

If you are near Kellihers or EWL store, you can easily pick up some heat-shrink wrap for much more durable joint. Or complete soldering kit. If you plan on keeping bike for while, there will certainly be other needs for soldering in future.
