I guess it depends upon where you live.
I have a Tourmaster Jacket and pants that are mesh with rain and thermal liners that zip in. Works good in 4 seasons in the Washington DC area. The rain liners are not perfect, they are good for a 30-60 minute or so ride but if you are riding all day in the rain you will get soaked through. In weather around freezing I wear an additional polar tech vest under the jacket.
