For my vacation I basically pulled out maps and looked for the squiggly lines.

I came from Ohio, heading for Fayetteville, where the New River Gorge bridge is. US 60 along there is very nice, and I took a shortcut off of 60 at Chimney Corner, WV for the last five miles or so that was just drop-dead awesome (Google-map it and see for yourself how curvy things are through there).

I stayed in Fayettevile. The next day I headed up US 19 to US 60 again, then east (southeast) to US 219, then north to 250, then east again towards Virginia.

Everything along those roads in WV was fabulous. US250 right after crossing into VA SUCKED because of poor road maintenance. I HATE GRAVEL!!!!

A guy I ran into told me 219 is great all the way up into Maryland.
