I did this a long time ago, and I’ve had no problems with how they operate. Did it when I was very new to working on bikes (and cars) and it went smoothly.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been riding my Ninjette all over Ohio for the past 9 years with the rear lights set up this way, and the police have never given me any grief over it. And yes, I’ve just happened to have a police cruiser behind me in traffic many times, and I’ve never been stopped. However, YMMV.
