Candle wax? I'd put that solidly in the category of "extremely rare" road hazards.
More likely the will be a lot of sand. Since parking lots are not heavily traveled, the sand from the winter tends to stick around a lot longer.
I live across the street from a school and this is the case around here.
BTW, Lee Parks' Total Control book is chock-full of detailed parking lot drills complete with diagrams. Highly recommended.
