Wow! That's bad. Mine wasn't like that.

Mine felt more like plastic than rubber and it just snapped, didn't melt.

I'll cover the new one on grease and keep a close look to see how it goes through time.

Do you know how old your cap is? Maybe SSR changed the material now?
I don't know how old mine is because I bought it used from the the forum.
