For most people, the
Ducati 1199 Panigale is more than enough bike for them to handle. For those who want something a little more special, Ducati offers the
1199 Panigale S. Those seeking even higher performance for the race track could move up to the
1199 Panigale R. But what if even that was not good enough?
Ducati has been sending out invitations to select customers offering a new, even more drool-worthy model to be called the 1199 Panigale R Superleggera. The SL will be offered in limited numbers, primarily to higher-end customers, such as those who already have a Ducati Desmosedici RR in their garages. Members of the
Ducati.ms forum have reportedly received invitations.
Official details have yet to be released, but the Panigale R Superleggera is rumored to feature a magnesium frame, magnesium wheels, a carbon sub-frame, titanium exhaust and upgraded suspension. The engine is said to produce over 200 hp while the lightweight components have brought the Panigale’s weight to a rumored 366 pounds. The price tag is said to be somewhere north of US$65,000.
Ducati will only produce the 1199 Panigale R Superleggera in limited numbers. We expect Ducati will produce enough to meet the World Superbike Championship’s rules, which would mean 125 units in time for homologation inspection, and 500 units by next July.
Expect full details of the Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera to emerge in the weeks ahead leading up to the
2013 EICMA show in Milan.
