I don't usually try, unless I know the light's about to change. It's not like riding a bicycle, where you unclip to put a foot down, and it's hard to get going again. I prefer to just ride to a gentle stop, put my foot out once the bike is in 1st, and ease to a stop, checking my mirrors and nearby traffic....head on a swivel. The most likely place for an accident involving another vehicle is at an intersection, I don't want to distract myself playing a balancing game.
