The 2022 Zero S: The Entry Into the Zero Street Lineup
Contents
The Zero S is the motorcycle that started the street segment for the
American company. Today, it sits below the more capable Zero SR, SR/F, and SR/S models in the
2022 Zero Motorcycles lineup. That said, it offers modest performance and range numbers, making it an excellent option for everyday commuting.
Unlike the Zero SR models with 14.4kWh battery packs as standard, the Zero S offers half the battery capacity with a 7.2 kWh total capacity. This translates to less than half the range, with a claimed 89 miles in the city and 45 miles (at 70mph) on the highway. A full charge takes 5.2 hours, but you can bring that number down to just 1.5 hours using the Charge Tank (6kW charger).
The Z-Force 75-5 motor produces peak power and torque figures of 46hp and 78 lb-ft, respectively. This isn’t the most exciting EV in Zero’s stable, but the performance is enough to get the bike to a respectable top speed of 98mph.
Zero Motorcycles may have equipped the Zero S with a more humble powertrain and battery pack, but it didn’t skimp out on the hardware. The EV comes equipped with a set of grippy Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires, fully adjustable Showa suspension, and Bosch Gen 9 ABS that works alongside braking hardware from J.Juan.
Yes, you’re missing out on the neck-snapping torque and acceleration that the SR models offer, but it’s worth noting that the Zero S costs at least $7,000 less than its bigger siblings.
The 2022 Zero S starts at $11,595 USD / $14,895 CAD.
