I know the pregen uses 4 pickups. I also know the efi version of the newgen uses more pickups than the carb version of the newgen. (From talking to shadowwolf about his oe efi retrofit). That might be the only issue with using the stock CDI with a 300 engine; too many pickups for the CDI.
Might be easier to do the whole shebang at once and go with the entire oe efi setup
