Opinions on these Bikes
Hey ninjettes im back , hope you all are doing well. Another question has came up so I’m back looking for some opinions. I found a few bikes for sale near me and was wondering which I should consider getting and how hard is the maintence on these bikes, engine life, and I’m currently in Chicago and I go back and fourth to Texas a bit to visit family. Which bikes do you guys consider ?
Btw I’m really into sport bikes and I make an exception for sportsters I love the way they ride and the style. Edit: I removed all the links but will list the bikes instead for for tour opinions . 2006 HD XL1200L Sportster Low $3900 with 12K Miles. 2013 Honda CBR650F $4500 with 3K miles. 2012 HD XL1200C Sportster $4500 with 13K miles. I like Sportsters as well, it's simple and gets the job done. I prefer a Sportster with lower handle bars or a 48.
If I had to choose out of all the bikes you posted, it would be the CBR650F and the 06XL883. HD bikes will probably cost more to maintain though. FZ6R would probably be my third pick. Engine life all depends on the person maintaining it, my neighbors Rebel 250 is in the 100k+ and still running . My Ninja 250 is about 22k+ it still feels like a new bike.

14 hour trips are serious XL1200 or VFR800 would make it a better experience.

a friend bought a cbr650, i rode it for a day. i enjoyed the bike, smooth power curve. suspension was what you'd expect on a bike in this category. i did find myself missing the low end torque of my 2 cyl ninja 650 though.

Please forgive me and understand and don’t hate me ninjettes, I ended up going with the HD lol. For a few reasons,
1. Great deal on it at HD Dealership. Has been serviced AND comes with a warranty. Everyone loves warranty’s . 2. I actually got it for less than the price of the CBR. (Dealership mistake) 3. Asked around a bit more (outside of forums) and heard it’s more ideal to take the trips I wanna take on a HD. 4. Pretty sure I made a life long pal at the dealership lol, new riding buddy actually my first riding buddy, but he works in the shop at HD and is going to show me everything I need to learn about my bike + plan on taking some good rides together. HEY! The more the merrier 😁. And 5. Better than all the above , A happy wife means a happy ME. My wife is not thrilled about me driving motorcycles at all, so the slower I can go, less worrying she has to do so she says. So don’t hate me ninjettes , I still have my 02 Ninja 250r in excellent condition. Probably will never get rid of it because I do want my wife to learn one day and daughters so I will keep the maintenance up on it over the years the best I can, still only at 10K on the engine so it has a bit of life ahead of her. Back to my HD, I purchased it a few days ago here she is. 2006 HD XL1200L Looks black in picture but she is a gorgeous Cherry Red Pearl 🍒 & Black Pearl. |

I was just going to say between the two HD's I'd go with the 2012. It's the newer fuel injected model, the 2006 has a carb.
I do like that your Sportster has the mid controls. I had Mids on my 1997 Sportster, my 2006 has the forward controls and the feet forward position puts more weight on my tailbone. |

Oh believe me I wanted to go with the fuel injected 2012 but when I went to test drive it, it took a good minute to get it started and stay running. Full of gas but seemed like it was giving out when I was hitting the highway every so often so I was just suspicious of it and spending 5K+ after everything so I went with something I knew was in good shape. Grew up riding dirtbikes so im not unfamiliar with carbs at all so I guess its time to start learning about the one on the Sportster now. Great overall in my opinion though i cant be mad its everything I wanted for the price.

I am very happy for your purchase!
I wasn't a big cruiser fan until I actually hopped on two HD's during vacations. The first year I did a cruise, in Cozumel I did an excursion on a Sportster 1200. I LOVED the bike. Rode well, sounded amazing, and it started to change my views on what is a good bike. I was always only sportbikes, standards, and dual sports. Then in the Bahamas, I rode a FLSTF Fat Boy, and wow, I was sold. It was so comfortable and soon became my favorite in the HD line. So I started to consider much more than just my main three. Now I'm pretty much open to any bike. I shy away from sportbikes these days simply because I tend to want to ride it like it was designed to be ridden. Others, I'm more relaxed. Enjoy your new ride!!!

They are all fun to ride, the torque of a big V-Twin is addictive to me as winding out an in-line four and watching the speedometer sail past triple digits. I wish I could afford one of each. |
