1987 rear suspension
Hello all, I'm new here in fact new to the whole sport bike craze. so here is my question.
can you adjust the rear shock on a 1986-87 250R? I looked at the shock and it doesn't have the preload 1-5 marks. At the top it just has a nut that compresses the spring. I'm 5'10 and with gear on around 200lbs. I went for a ride yesterday and with the rear fender eliminator on the rear tire hit the license plate and bent it upwards. there is approx 4 inches of space or more between them. |

No pre-load adjustment on the 2007 and earlier shock. It was added for the 2008+ models.

It definitely fits the '88 - '07 bikes with no issue. I do not know if the '86-'87 shocks are also interchangeable.

so i was just told that on the 87 there are two nuts one is a locking nut. if i tighten them down and compress the spring it stiffens the suspension. does this sound right??

that is clean compared to the rest of the bike when i got it. it sat for over 2 years. lets just say the carbs were gummed up all right.
so if i can get the nuts to turn should i turn them all the way down. i'm 5'10 and with gear 200 lbs. i don't want to bend the license plate again. |

Try small amounts at a time if you can get it turning.
Mine sat for 4 years, but it was in a garage. I have a good idea what your carbs looked like |
