Group riding etiquette
When you are on a group riders do you and your co-riders point out things on the road (sand, other debris, potholes) to the riders behind you? I always do and I find when I ride with guys on cruisers they do too, when I ride with fellow sport bike riders they typically just point out dangerous corners (usually downhill and blind, or cars coming towards us in a corner).
And yes I spelled etiquette wrong. |

I usually will point out whatever can be a danger to another rider. I'd want for them to do the same.

absolutely - some guys are too caught up in their own ride maybe. not asking them to risk life and limb by moving a foot or arm in a difficult spot of course, but when possible why not point it out.

yep, which is why I'm very selective about who I ride with. Not being a snob, but I have to have confidence in the people I ride with so I know they are on the same wavelength. Makes communication that much easier when needed.

well i have started to since i'm a little more comfortable on the bike. like the other day when the bf and i went on a ride, I went over an uneven pavement which made me literally jump off my seat, so I stuck both my legs out to warm him behind me that there is an object on the ground.

Got so used to doing that with bicycle riding that I do it with MC riders as well. A lot of the riders don't understand the signals. I point at potholes, loose road surface, obstructions like pieces of truck tyres, road kills, and other debris. I also signal potholes to cagers. I really don't know if they understand the signals.

I and the group I ride with do the same. Arms or legs, whichever is easiest at the time...

Agreed tap on the helmet is a vital one. I actually had a cager flash their brights at my last weekend. Saved me from getting a 85 in a 65 lolz

Yep, we point all the time. I'm a road captain in my group, so I typically ride up front, even though I like being last in line.
I've only had to use the head tap once. |

Is there some sort of convention for the signals?
I have no idea what tap on the helmet is |

I don't know if there is are set hand signals, but if you ride with a group, you'll get used to whatever method they use.
For instance, in my group, to indicate we need to slow down, some will raise their left fist in the air and hold it, while others will lower their left hand to indicate 'bring it down'. Of course the raised fist works better, as the people further back can see it too. |

here's one, http://www.ridemyown.com/articles/sa...dsignals.shtml, I haven't had to use the bottom one yet! Also, for hazards on the right, DON'T try pointing with your hand, use your foot.
Oh, here is another, http://www.a3hog.com/HandSignals/HandSignals.html. |

Only thing i use or saw other people use was slow down. Seems to be useful in any occasion. If its a hazard, slow down and see it, if its police, slow down and dont get a ticket |
