Does the bike have to be moving in order to throw it into 2nd+? If so I feel like a rahtard... lol

It's funny.... I had the same question once, even though I knew the answer... was under stress, and forgot.
BTW: If your original shift lever can be bend back to be able to function (held in a vise, bend with a pipe), it can be good insurance in the saddlebag on long rides. I once got so distracted by the need to photograph some mountains, that I forgot to put my kickstand down before dismounting.... fortunately I caught it before bending the shifter, but I would have been calling a tow truck had I bent it. This was the second time.... the first time was in my garage, and I couldn't shift anymore, until I bent it back. I now bring the re-bent lever with me on those longer trips as a spare - just in case. More importantly though, I am more conscientious about using the kick-stand. |

If you have a rear bike stand, you can spin the wheel with your hand and pop up into 2nd. Just finished beating my old one straight, twisted it up at track. Melted the plastic bushing inside it while blowtorching to bend it, so I replaced it with electrical tape. Tested it out and its a little wiggly, but can hit all gears
