Keeping your helmet clean
Hello everyone!
I am still pretty new to gear upkeep. I was wondering what all of you vets use to keep your helmet clean? I live on the cusp of flatland delta and some mountains, so naturally, I get a helmet full of bugs on any decent ride. I have a scorpion EXO helmet with the fog resistant inner coating. I would like the least harsh process to keep my helmet clean and shiny. Currently I have just been using lint-free cloths soaked in warm water to break up and remove the bug guts. |

I just use Plexus and a rag in the tank bag, for both the visor and the rest of the helmet. Also use it on the rest of the bike as well.

When getting ready for a ride, I soak a paper towel (gasp!) and lay it over the visor to wet all the bugs and goo down. After a few minutes, I come back and lightly wipe off the screen. Then I dry it using a soft microfiber cloth.
On the road, I have a car wash towel from Walmart with a "rough" terry cloth scrubbing side and a soft microfiber side. I soak one quarter of the towel using the water from the windshield squeegee bucket at the gas stop and run the wet rough side over the visor to clean it off, then flip the towel over and dry it with the soft side. I then stuff it somewhere where the wind can dry it off between gas stops. As for the rest of the helmet, I only clean that off when the CDC starts threatening me with biohazard restrictions.

With the visor, I take a new piece of paper towel to "blot" it dry. I always carry a few pieces of napkin with my under the pillion seat for this purpose. Sometimes the problem is finding water.

I throw my helmet liner in the wash when it gets grodie, and let it air dry. The outside of the helmet, i use a paper towel or clean rag and water.
