Gas tank

Bought a new gas tank but it does come with the key to open the gas cap. Is there anyway to remove the gas cap without the key? Taking the 8 screws should remove the entire assembly from the tank? Thanks all.

Unfortunately there is one screw that can only be removed with the cap open.

You can take the tank to a locksmith and get a key made. You can also break the lock using a dent puller or a drill.

Thanks Craig. You're right. there is a single philip screw holding the assembley to the tank (along with the outside screws). I think this screw is for security (so peeps can't get into your tank by simple taking out the outter screws?). I guess I'll have to hit up the seller and beg for the key or (more than likely) plan B: the drill.

If you drill it, don't drill all the way through. Go just deep enough to dig out all the tumblers. If you leave the bottom piece in tact you will have a racers gas cap that opens with a screw driver.

A locksmith could be the best answer. They might also be able to match the key to the ignition.

Okay looks like it's drill time. The seller doesn't have the key anymore.
So basically just drill down the middle where the key goes in? How big of a bit? Thanks

Pop off the plastic cover and remove the bolts. Getting the float arm out is a Cirque du Soleil event, but once you get it, it's cake.
