Clip-On Curiousity?
Hey guys, I got in on the clip-on group buy from Sportisi and have a quick question. These clip-ons are obviously intended to mount on top of the triple tree but I was curious if anything would prevent them from being mounted to the forks underneath the triple tree. I have no body work and an old school (read tiny) gas tank. I can't foresee any clearance issues at all. It may be too low of an option for me anyways but I was curious if it was possible...or if Im missing something that would prevent them from working this way. Thanks in advance!

should be possible given your lack of fairings. being that the design does not incorporate a riser, they will be ultra low and aggressive - but if you like it, you like it.
good luck |

Probably too low to be comfortable at this stage on my bike but I have been contemplating a cafe-esque fiberglass pan/bump which would significantly lower my seat height. May work for me at that point. Thanks for the response.

Hahaha thanks Kelly.
The Clipons look like they would fit if it wasn't for my headlight ears which get in the way. I'm on the lookout for a new headlight assembly anyhoo so that could be a possible remedy to that issue. They would be super low...but its good to know I have the option. Thanks fellas. I'll get my gf to snap some pics of the bike this weekend hopefully. It looks awesome in my ever-so humble opinion. |

Anybody got a write up for installing clip ons that mount on top of the trip tree? How far am I supposed to torque the front end down? Also, how do I torque the front end down on a 250? Thanks!

I was in this group buy with you... did you find that the Nui handlebars are slightly narrower in diameter than stock? I had a devil of a time getting the grips and levers to stay on.

ok cool. I ended up using a bit of electrical tape lol.
What did you mean by toque down the front end? are you referring to the triple tree clamps on the forks? |

Oh. to be honest, I'm not sure. I actually just shoved them up through the top triple, put the clipons on loose, and then shoved the forks down til they were flush along the top. If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably been moved 5-6mm from stock. I had the bike up on a stand in the rear, and a jack under the engine, so no weight on the forks of course. I was replacing the fork springs as well, so the wheel was off too.
the torque values for the triples btw are 15ft/lbs for the top, and 22 for the bottom, according to the shop manual. Also FWIW, I haven't had a chance to ride the bike since putting on the new bars, but to be honest I don't think the new position is really that dramatic. I'm about 5'9". I wouldn't think it'd be such a bad idea to try putting them under the top clamp, especially if you want that cafe racer vibe. |
