Asking Price
So I'm considering selling my 2009 Black Ninja 250. Only has 2200 miles, I eliminated the tail, kept it nice and tidy, broke her in properly and what not. I own all the paperwork, never been dropped bla bla. Anyways I would like to know what is a fair but firm asking price.

Depends on your area, I'd check Craigslist and/or local forums to see what's typical. Around here, your bike could probably fetch $3,900 - $4,200 pretty easily.

in Rhode Island where dealer sold out this summer then got 2 more bikes this fall, my excellent condition blue 09 with 8000 miles supposedly would be sold by dealer for 3K. my miles i high so you might pull 3500 here.

Around here all of the 09 on Craig's List have finally come down to around $3000 and will probably go lower than that unless people wait until spring to sell them.

It was probably either around winter, or beginning of spring. The downside of spring is that even though I would get more for the 250, I would have to spend more on its replacement.

Mike you've asked the classic question - what is my bike worth. From my experience there are three factors to take into consideration; location, time of year, and how bad you want to sell. In Boulder winter is closer than good riding weather so I wouldn't expect to get top dollar right now. How many other bikes are on the market and available. Check the "local" dealers and see what they have on the floor. And finally what is your bottom dollar.
As Ryan suggested check Craigslist and see what is going on there. I would also check the NADA and BlueBook and see what they have. It really comes down to how fast you want to sell and what your bottom dollar is. Good Luck but I've really got to ask - Why?

I saw a guy selling his 2008 for $4500 yesterday. I shook my head; that's about what my 2008 cost new last year - and this year the demand isn't nearly as strong.
I predict a reposting with a lower price in the near future....

Jeremy Clarkson hates motorcycles. Are you upgrading to an Ariel Atom?

http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail...ja-250r/232232 I bought my dead mint 08 with 1100 miles on it at the end of July for $3000. You can ASK for a lot of money and who knows... maybe someone hot to own a bike only weeks before winter sets in will come along and buy it. But that seems a bit unlikely. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't demand for used bikes go DOWN at the end of the season in areas where there is a real winter? MSRP for that bike was $3999 (out the door prices doesn't count in my book). If you get $3500 you'll be doing really well IMHO. Realistically, you're probably looking at $3200 or maybe less, depending on local market conditions. |

one thing to keep in mind is if you did by your bike at MSRP ($4K), and enjoyed riding it, and sell it and get lets say $3K, that really isn't that bad. I would say that I had $1K worth of fun on it. Now picture buying a larger bike for around $10K, a year later you would lose more that $1K selling it for sure. I buy things for the fun of using them and not for resale. If you are in it for resale then forget bikes, cars, boats and buy some gold or good stocks.

BTW I just saw an immaculate '08 R6 (600 miles) the owner took a $3K bath on trading it.

I think that today its a reasonable price - but geography/weather/demand in some areas might make it seem low. Last year at this time however I think it would have been closer to $3K. Even with my 8K miles local dealer (heading into cold(slow) season, would list my bike at $3K and discount a couple hundred.

I was thinking closer to the $3,000 mark. Considering the 2010 is $4,299 and the 2009 was 3,999 plus dealer fees.

Dropped would be under $2500 for my area right now, or at least that's what I would offer.
