Women on currency

There has been a lot of talk lately about changing some of our paper currency to bear the likeness of various women in US history. As some of you may or may not know, Martha Washington's likeness was on the $1 US silver certificate from 1891 to 1896.

I think I may have found a compromise.

US $1 (and larger) coins

Susan B. Anthony and intrepid Louis & Clark guide Sacajawea have both been on the much maligned $1 US coin.

It is my suggestion that after the US $1 president series is completed that the $1 coin be forever reserved for historical US women.

I would also suggest that the US mint a $2, $5, and $10 denominations and reserve those for women as well.

large denomination coinage has been in use in many countries around the world. I actually have a 50 Frank coin (about $10 US).

This adds the honor of being on the US currency (much like a US postage stamp) with out taking away from the history and heritage of the currently printed bills.

It also may have the added benefit of actually getting those coins into circulation where they need to be. A $1 bill has a life expectancy of 18 months in circulation, a $1 coin will last on average 4.8 years.

What say ye?

Only if they get rid of the penny while they are at it.

I believe women have a right to be on currency. I think Pam Anderson's and Paris Hilton's famous videos should have excerpts taken from them and used on all paper money. Maybe a different pose each month (that actually might be hard to swallow).

it would be more cost effective to burn stacks of $1 then $20 bills.

I travel to New Zealand and they have a 2.00 coin. I was surprised how useful that is. Three quarters are worth 75 cents. You can't even buy gum for .75 cents. But thee two dollar coins add up to six bucks. That is real money.

I want to keep the Pennie. Because they add up to real money and who gets the odd cents change? I want it .

Also take people off the money all together. That way there is no debate. My two cents haha

Agree with the $2 coin. I lived in Australia and they also have $1 and $2 coins. No penny's and the smallest bills are $5. Made a lot of sense to me and that was 20 years ago.

well I've been stashing away the "pre 82" pennies for years (they are 100% copper) depending on scrap "bright" copper value they will be worth 2 - 3 cents each

We've been using Loonies ($1) & Toonies ($2) coins for I forget how long! They're great! Especially if you save your pocket full of change at the end of the day! When I break the piggy bank for bike bling once or twice a year; it's usually good for $400-600!
As for women on money: we've had one on all our money since the early 1950's!

Toonies... I heard they were called the "queen with a bear behind"

I actually have one of those as well, great for paying the toll on bridge in Fort Francis

I imagine that these coins would be highly sought after by coin collectors.

As long as the bartender gives me my drink, I could not care less who's picture is on the bill.

I think that is the only place I use cash.

I'm guessing by your post it's because you're cheap?
