Rear Brake Light Flasher (no-cut!) for the 2008 Ninja 250R
I came across this link, and quickly decided to try one out. It's a "no-cut" flasher for the 2008 Ninja 250R's rear brake light. Basically, you take off your rear seat, you unplug the brake light harness, and plug this gadget in between, you stick the small unit into an empty spot with the included 2-sided tape, and you're done. I just finished installing it, it works exactly as described, and is a piece of cake to install (and uninstall, if you like).
You have a choice of having it flash about 5 times then go solid, or about 10 times and go solid, by cutting the green wire. I've attached a PDF of the ebay auction which includes detailed pics. Looking at the web page, it appears that you don't have to "buy it now" through ebay, you can just paypal him directly from the website.

I bought this about 3 weeks ago and put it on my bike. I have had a couple cars tell me at stop lights that my brake light was flashing...all I could do was smile. This means they saw it and thus this simple mod is very effective. I love feeling safer when Im riding with all those crazy floridian drivers

I have one on mine too.... I like it.
My wife was following me one night and later told me that that single red light in the night blends in with everything else, but when it starts to flash it pops out. Best mod for the $$ (IMN2BHO). |

I also have one. One of my first mods, even before the fender elim. Anything that might help cagers see that I'm slowing down and not plow into me is fine by me..

yeah basically it's a $5 parts wired up to two connectors...You can just buy the parts for $5 and cut a single wire and attach it yourself.

Mind posting up any links to where we can find the Rear-Alert module for $5? My quick searches online show it for between $10 & $15, then you'd need the proprietary connectors and some soldering skills. Certainly a simple task, but for someone to package them together, guarantee them, and make the task a 5 minute job for just about anyone with no cutting involved, that was worth $20 to me. The price has gone up a bit (I think he wants $28 now), but I can see many folks still being very interested in it.

Projects like this have always cost me wayyyy more $ since the only easy source I have for electronic parts in small amounts is Radio Shack, and they are $$$$$$. I paid ~$30 I think this past summer for my unit. I agree that it is worth it. The guy who makes them must get the parts in bulk, so I wouldn't be surprised if $5 is his cost.

It will work...the $30 is the same unit...just a connector added to "plug in". If you want, you can order the LED bulb that they have there too..LED works better of course (flashes faster, cleaner)

Have you (or anyone you know) installed that module, and has it been working for awhile? LED bulb or incandescent? If so, it does seem like a way to save a couple bucks and get similar results.

I used this one
http://www.kisantech.com/view_product.php?product=20W-D Cost $70 , But it just replaces the Bulb. It also has a Flash Rate that slows down until it gets to solid on. It also came with an extra Halogen bulb in the package. |

I liked the fact it just replaced the stock light. Still waiting for ClearAlteratives to release intergrated light. |

Does anyone have any recommendations for a LED taillight bulb? Are they as bright as stock?

I know that LED can be brighter than incandescent when designed properly. Many cars and bikes are coming with LED signals stock that meet all DOT regs and are plenty bright (including all of my cars and some of my own bikes). But all of the ones that I've seen that just replace a stock bulb with a LED array screwed into that bulb mount just aren't as bright. Right behind the bike in a straight angle they are plenty bright, but just off angle they are nowhere near as bright as the original bulb. YMMV.

I ended up purchaseing a 32 LED tail light bulb from autolumination. BEWARE THEY ARE A BAD COMPANY!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
The bulb was THE MATRIX II LED BULB. It was $12. I like how it still uses the stock reflector. I think that this bulb will be less directional than others. I will review it when it gets here. I also ordered one of the flasher units. Last futzed with by maxedpenny; March 2nd, 2009 at 07:57 PM. |

No-cut modulator
http://www.nocutmodulators.com/
This guy is wonderful, and his product is exactly as advertised. You've read about my experience with the other guy - typical for me to try and save a buck and end up spending more in the long run. As a result of the other thing, we now own a heat gun (that the hubby wanted anyway), and spent over $10 in the connectors that I used, and then cut out and had to use to reconnect my brake light. So two thumbs up for no cut modulators! My only advice is not to get it through ebay - it's $2 cheaper and shipping is $1 cheaper through his site.... ask me how I know Last futzed with by noche_caliente; March 2nd, 2009 at 09:02 PM. |

I was wondering who the seller was because this is the only seller that the search function from ebay picks up ace-at-mind and he is selling it for $2 more and its making me wonder what the sellers name that sells it for $2 dollars less in the original pdf. You said it was cheaper through ebay so I'm trying to find it.

Does anyone know if this will work on the '07 250? Or is the brake light connector different on it? I can't tell from the pictures on his site or from the wiring diagrams in the service manual and online (Babbitt's) schematics.

Kelly, that note on his website is the reason I didn't just e-mail and ask him. I can buy it and try it, but I was hoping someone was familiar enough with the connectors that they could just tell me that they're the same (or that they're not).
Given how detailed the Kawasaki parts diagrams seem to be, I'm a bit surprised that they don't have more detail on the connector or harness. Can someone take a better pic of the '08 connector and post it here? (Or I can post the '07 connector, and someone call tell me if it looks identical on the '08.) Here is the diagram for the '07: All that being said, I've sent him an e-mail in case he's recently learned about the '07. I'll update this thread with his response. Thanks. Last futzed with by zeroth; March 3rd, 2009 at 02:02 PM. Reason: added diagram |

JC,
Fair enough... you show me yours, I'll show you mine. Post up a picture of the connector in question and I'll do likewise once I'm sure which connector we're talking about. |

Update! I got a reply from the no-cut modulator guy. Here is what he said:
Quote:
Alex, yes the device should work on the '09 as well. It's pretty much identical to the '08. But you should let someone with at least an '08 chime in before buying one based on what I say. |
