2012 amateur 250 supersport & ulws standings
As you know, we're working with CVMA to have the Top 3 Amateurs recognized in the annual banquet since the class is not currently separated by status. In addition, we're working with vendors/sponsors on awarding you for your achievements.
So the question is, should the current standings be scored as if it was segregated by status (1st place = 25 pts, 2nd = 20 pts, 3rd = 16 pts, etc.) or should we leave it as is? Please try not to cast bias votes <--prolly asking too much. But I need to know so I can turn in the final proposal to CVMA. 1st attached is a pic of how the standings would look if we revised it as if Amateurs were scored separately from Experts. 2nd & 3rd attached pics are how the standings look right now (taken directly from CVMA's site). With 2 races in each class (Supersport & Ultra Lightweight Shootout) to go it's still a tight race for you Amateurs. Let me know your thoughts. On a side note - I'm pushing to have the class scored/awarded separately by Expert/Amateur for 2013-2014 but with this month's showing it's hard to justify the cause/expense. If you want the class separated by status we really need you guys to spread the word, recruit racers, and continue to show up & RACE on a regular basis. I know a few people will be dropping out next year so we need those spots filled up as well on top of getting new racers to join. I'll keep you posted.

Do it anyway you want as long as Tiffany wins.
This is strictly non-bias.

I believe you are the top Am regardless of accounting method.
I don't actually understand what the options are. Leave it the way what is? |

Andrew (Cheeks) and I will be excluded from the Amateur scoring. Leave it the way it is...meaning how CVMA has it currently scored online (scored with the Experts).

Oh I see. as in: scored with the weighted point reward based on overall position vs scored with a separate weighted point reward based on finishing position out of amateurs.
Damn, I think I might have a first in the AM system. Therefore we gotta stick with overall scores. Forever 5th. |

i know we've gone over this already. and i know everyone disagrees with me, but you asked for peoples opinions. in my opinion its like putting all the dull knives in a separate drawer so you can feel good about being the sharpest knife in the drawer... still a dull knife, and i know people like achievements and recognition. it's just not my thing.
like i said, i know everyone disagrees with me. so don't worry trying to tell me i'm wrong. i already know you think i am.

Actually, the other way I have a 25pt lead over John H which is almost a lockup because he'd have to get at least 4th in both races. Hard to do when Nem/Josh/Steve/Darren/Cheeks are racing. I'd say flip a coin because either way, someone is going to benefit or get screwed.

Alex, in his completely incomprehensible way is trying to say "I disagree with separating and awarding the best Amateur on the basis that that makes me feel like I'm running in the special olympics. There should be only one winner within the class regardless of their expert or amateur status"
Was that so hard? |

Regardless of CVMA's awards, I'm all for the experts (and hong/cheeks) giving an informal award to "bottom-feeder of the year" for the 250 amateurs

I think if you guys looked at it from our perspective, you Amateurs played a vital role in making the class what it is today. It wasn't one man or the veteran's doing but all the credit goes to you guys. And this is our way of saying, thank you! I agree that we should still reward the top 3 amateurs and it would be cool if all of you showed your support in doing so whether you agree with it or not out of pure good sportsmanship. Okay, here are the results as it stands on CVMA's website. So, the question is would you go with the current results on CVMA's website or have it adjusted and scored as if "scored with a separate weighted point reward based on finishing position out of amateurs"? <--see pic attached in original post.

You're right but then I got to thinking anyone and everyone can cast votes; and the only people's vote I care about are those who are racing with CVMA.

What? No, I'm not mad at all. Alex's use of elaborate metaphors without first stating the point and generally being completely incapable of communicating a thought was just physically painful to read so I had to clarify
I have no qualms with a top honors or separate amateur class personally. I think it would be cool, but I also admittedly won't be heartbroken if it's not an option on an official level. As for everything else with points, I'll have to wait until I'm not on my phone to take the time to form an opinion Posted via Mobile Device |

Points give people incentive to keep showing up round after round. The 250 riders all love competing against each other and since the experts are scored with the amateurs officially, it's tough to be a learner and still have that points incentive if you're stuck racing against guys or gals with years of racing experience. You may never reach the same level. What's the harm in awarding amateurs with the same fun of a points incentive against other amateurs? I bet if you were leading points in a class at CVMA you would start to care about it. things are different on the other side of the fence. Just my 2 cents. I jumped in here to read the chart to see where my wife was in the points. |

okay I voted separate cuz that makes me 2nd. Duh!! Yes i'm biased. Based on the fact that if we were going to get kudos anyways, it would be scored separately just like all the other classes are. Ex. Am FTwins isnt combined scored with expert FTwins in points. But seriously even just hanging out with a group celebratory "yay for everyone" would be fine with me too.
