Rubbing sound in top end?

I've been riding with ear buds lately, so I didn't notice this sound until today when I ran an errand without them. Everything sounds normal at idle, but once I get to around 4K+ RPM I'm hearing a foreign sound in the engine. To me it sounds like something rubbing in the top end. I'm describing the sound, not suggesting the actual cause. It may not literally be something rubbing. I haven't torn anything apart yet, and am 500-1000 miles from my next valve inspection. I have a manually adjusted cam chain tensioner, which is locked at a specific tension, so I doubt the cam chain actually tightened. I'm kind of stumped.... Any ideas?

Put the ear buds back in.

i would say if it is only sound, not to worry too much... if you notice any power difference or vibration i would start looking at intake stuff. maybe a bolt or something is simply loose and vibrating?

There is but one detail I'm concerned about. Here's the thread from the last thing I broke, and am hoping it isn't coming back to bite me: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103096

If after looking at this you think I still shouldn't worry about it yet, then I won't.

Having had that previous damage, I would reduce the recommended time between valve and chain inspections.

Probably a good idea.
